Description

About Eric Fraser

Eric Fraser (LCAT, MA, MT-BC) is a music therapist and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with a focus on somatic therapies. Drawing on years of experience, he offers a body-centered, trauma-informed music therapy approach shaped by his deep connection to Indian Classical Music.

Training and Lineage

Eric studied Indian classical music on the bansuri flute within the Guru-Sishya Parampara tradition, training while living with his Guru, Pandit Gopal Roy, in Kolkata, India. He has received extensive taleem, or oral teachings, and his playing reflects the purity of tone, authenticity, and tradition of his gharana, or lineage. This lineage holds a distinctive place in Indian music, evoking old-world Kolkata through the gayaki ang, or “singing style,” of bansuri flute. His musical roots include masters such as Pannalal Ghosh, Gour Goswami, and the celebrated vocalist Ustad Amir Khan. Eric’s versatile artistry allows him to move fluidly between classical, innovative, and fusion projects.

Artistic Career

In addition to his therapeutic work, Eric is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and recording artist. His original music explores a rich blend of Indian classical music, long-form instrumental composition, and indie songwriting.

Certifications and Leadership

He is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) and a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT). Eric is a co-founder of Brooklyn Raga Massive and a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar in Indian classical music. He also founded and directs Sound and Nature, a licensed mental health practice in Germantown, NY.
