Dr. Hy V. Huynh (they/them) is a Buddhist community psychologist and mindfulness meditation teacher based in Durham, North Carolina. With more than 15 years of practice in Theravada (vipassanā) meditation, their path has been shaped by early training in culturally vibrant Buddhist communities across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. In their professional work, they are a global mental health researcher, practitioner, and professor committed to advancing the well-being of marginalized communities around the world, with a focus on youth in residential care, immigrant and refugee families, and queer and trans communities. Outside of academia, they create welcoming spaces for meditation, workshops, and daylong courses for queer, trans, and QTBIPOC communities in the NC Triangle. Their teaching is deeply influenced by Vietnamese lineages, QTBIPOC Buddhist teachers, and queer and trans ancestors who modeled courageous belonging, care, and ways of living rooted in love.
