Carmen’s path into the kitchen began early, when at just 15 she was brought to the Krishna temple by her father and soon joined as a full-time member. Eager to learn the art of Eastern spicing, she asked the head monk—an accomplished cook—to share his culinary secrets. Instead, she spent months washing pots, a lesson in patience and humility that became the foundation of her training. Over time, she was finally introduced to the techniques of Indian cookery and developed a deep understanding of food as an expression of love and consciousness.
Over the years, visiting swamis tasted her dishes and blessed her cooking to always be exceptional. Today, that blessing seems well earned. Carmen is the retreat’s chef and also teaches cookery, sharing not only practical skills but also the mindful spirit behind every meal. Her sessions offer more than recipes—they invite guests into a nourishing culinary experience shaped by devotion, expertise, and care.
