Originally from Wales, Ayya Anandabodhi has lived as a Buddhist monastic for more than 30 years. Her path began in the Thai Forest Tradition in England, and later led her to the United States, where she co-founded Aloka Vihara, a residence for Bhikkhunis, or fully ordained Buddhist nuns, in California. She is also part of the worldwide revival of the Theravada Bhikkhuni Sangha, helping to restore the possibility of full ordination for women in the Theravada tradition.
Ayya is the founder of Pārāyana Vihāra in Washington State, where she currently lives. Her teaching is rooted in the early Buddhist scriptures, communal living, and the direct wisdom found in nature. In addition to offering Dhamma teachings and guided meditation, she serves on the Spiritual Council for Buddhist Global Relief, bringing depth, dedication, and compassionate insight to her work.
