Deepen your Ashtanga Yoga practice in the French countryside near Bordeaux. This retreat is perfect for those with an existing practice or those who have never done Ashtanga and want to begin to develop a practice. We’ll offer both led and Mysore-style classes.
If you already have a practice, you can enjoy it at your own pace through our daily Mysore-style and traditionally counted classes. You may choose to have hands-on assists or just enjoy your practice on your own. We respect all styles. All we ask is that you keep an open mind and a playful spirit!
If you are new to Ashtanga, we’ll teach you about the Mysore-style method, taking it slowly and customizing it to your own individual needs. You’ll learn gradually throughout the week, building slowly and with intention. The led classes will complement the Mysore-style by allowing you to see how the practice comes together. Modifications will be offered.
Ashtanga is a breathing and movement system designed to purify the body and mind. It was devised by Guruji Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and was derived from the teachings of his guru Krishnamacharya. It comes from Mysore, India where it’s still taught today by Guruji’s grandson Sharath Jois. Ashtanga is a set sequence of postures, starting with the primary series, followed by intermediate and third series (or Advanced A). The difference between Ashtanga and other styles of yoga is that Ashtanga is taught as an open practice where students memorize the asanas. There are also led classes where the breath and postures are called out as you would experience in a typical vinyasa class. Led classes help ensure the practitioner’s breath count, gaze and asanas are aligned.
