August 17–24, 2026
Step into a rare in-person retreat designed to explore the restorative power of darkness in a world filled with artificial light and constant digital stimulation. This program offers a thoughtful introduction to dark practice, combining practical guidance with a deep inquiry into consciousness, creativity, healing, and the unknown.
Across the week, participants will learn how to prepare for darkness safely, navigate challenges that may arise, and integrate the experience into everyday life. The retreat also explores the Eastern and Western roots of dark practice, along with its physiological and spiritual dimensions. Special attention is given to how darkness supports shadow work, balances the effects of the digital age, and creates space for insight and renewal.
Rather than focusing on relaxation alone, this retreat invites a fuller transformation. You will discover how darkness can become a canvas for creativity, a tool for working with anxiety and fear, and a powerful setting for exploring the five nocturnal meditations, including lucid dreaming and dream yoga. The experience also introduces the “gray retreat” approach—moving in and out of darkness as a way to bring its benefits into daily life.
Tuition: $425 + 7 nights lodging, combined at checkout. Meals and drinks are included, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. Extra nights may be added at 50% off.
Several lodging options are available at checkout, including tents, dormitories, monk rooms, and single or double rooms. All accommodations include healthy meals and drinks. Tents feature two twin beds, bookcases, and a hanging clothes rack, while dormitories offer shared bathroom facilities. Monk rooms provide a more private, indoor option with a bed, bedding, closet, large window, desk, and chair. Single and double rooms include a private 3/4 bathroom, dresser, and closet. Red Feather single and double rooms are also available.
An eye mask is required to ensure the best retreat experience.
This retreat offers a powerful reset from overstimulation, artificial light, and the pressures of modern life. It is an invitation to meet darkness not as something to avoid, but as a source of clarity, fearlessness, and transformation. Past participants have described it as deeply restorative, insightful, and unexpectedly alive.
The retreat faculty will guide participants through the full program with a balance of science, spirituality, and practical support.
