This is an 8-day meditation retreat with 6 full days of silence, designed to support deep rest, reflection, and renewal. You will spend your days in nature and in the company of horses, while receiving careful, structured guidance in meditation and silent practice.
You will stay in a spacious Victorian house near the sea in Arnside. Arnside and Silverdale are both designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, set on the edge of the Lake District National Park. From the house, you are only a short walk from the bay, with views across to the Lake District mountains, as well as surrounding woodland and hills.
The house can accommodate 16 guests in total, but bookings for this silent retreat are limited to 7 people. This creates a calmer atmosphere, eases pressure on the kitchen and bathrooms, and also makes it possible for 4 guests to have a private room.
Styled in a quirky bohemian way, the house offers many places to sit, rest, and unwind, including a completely private walled garden. There are also plenty of books to enjoy, and guests are encouraged to walk and journal during free time.
Experience the magic of this setting:
This transformative retreat invites you into deep silence, embodiment, and healing, all while surrounded by the sea, mountains, and nature. Guided by the intuitive presence of horses, you will take part in meditations and practices created to help you reconnect with inner peace and balance.
So often, we come to understand ourselves through the reactions and responses of others. Over time, this outside feedback can shape beliefs and perceptions that may not reflect our true purpose.
In silence, the labels we carry begin to fall away. The mind becomes still, like clear water, allowing reality to be seen more clearly. In this quiet space, you may discover what needs to grow and what has been standing in your way.
On a conscious level, we may blame others for what feels beyond our control. Yet many of our reactions come from unprocessed wounds held in the unconscious mind. Silence allows those projections to settle, creating room to feel and heal what lies beneath. As this deepens, the mind grows calmer, clearer, and more aligned with peace, joy, love, compassion, and creativity.
Horses are prey animals that live in herds, which makes them highly sensitive and deeply attuned to their surroundings. They are always present, constantly listening, watching, and responding to subtle changes. Their hearts generate an electro-magnetic field that is five times larger than a human heart’s, and they can detect your heart rate and synchronize with it. They also respond to hormonal shifts and mirror emotional patterns. In this way, horses help calm the central nervous system and show us how we are moving through the world, as well as what may be holding us back.
During spring and summer, sessions take place outdoors with two rescue horses, Yogi and Ellie, in the paddock. Together, they have been meditating with people for 16 years. They connect very deeply and often lie down on the grass so guests can lie beside them and cuddle. The effect is like a powerful natural sedative, bringing the heart and central nervous system into coherence and a profound sense of peace. These horses are based at Amber's Field, a 5-minute drive from the retreat house, and guests will be driven there each day.
During winter, the work continues with the gentle giants at Old Hall Farm in Bouth: Stan and Archie, the peaceful Shires, along with the donkey Ernie and Shetland Ted. This provides a comfortable indoor space away from the Lake District weather.
To keep the experience safe and manageable, only two horses are worked with at a time, and group size is capped at a maximum of 8 people. This also supports the teaching and energy work. Before and after the teachings, guests are invited to meet and connect with the other animals.
A train station is within walking distance of the house, with a short journey from Lancaster. Arnside is also close to the M6; leave at Carnforth and continue for around 15 minutes along country lanes. The nearest airport is Manchester, with regular trains from Manchester to Lancaster and then onward to Arnside.
You must arrive at 4pm on Day 1. After an hour to check in, dinner is served at 5pm. At 6pm, the welcome circle begins and continues until around 9pm.
Please ask to add £250 to upgrade to a private room.
