Step beyond the classic Cusco routes and into a quieter, more powerful landscape where ancient tradition and high-Andean scenery meet. Waqrapukara is a remarkable Inca site known for its dramatic setting, sweeping views, and far fewer crowds, making it one of the most rewarding treks in the region. Over two days, you will explore this sacred destination alongside a real Q'eros Shaman, who shares ancestral wisdom through meaningful rituals and a deeply spiritual trekking experience.
This journey offers something different from the usual tourist trail. Instead of rushing from landmark to landmark, you will move through the South Valley at a steady pace, surrounded by mountain views, open skies, and the energy of a place that still feels untouched. The experience blends trekking, culture, and ceremony, creating a memorable connection with the Andes and their living traditions.
Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and travel for around two and a half hours through the South Valley to the small village of Pomacanchi. After a nourishing breakfast, the journey continues to Chosecani, where you will meet the horsemen who help with camping equipment and final trek preparations. Along the way, the scenery opens up to impressive views of the high Andes.
Before the hike continues, your Andean Shaman from the Q'eros Community will conduct a Cleansing Ceremony and Coca Leaf Reading, offering a powerful start to the trek. From there, you will walk toward lunch and catch your first view of the striking Waqrapukara Inca site at 4150m / 13,615 ft. After a further 30-minute descent, you will arrive at the fortress itself. With more time available the next day, you can fully explore this mysterious site framed by the Apurimac canyon. Dinner is served before camping overnight, and your Q'eros Maestro may share stories under the stars before rest.
The day begins with a hearty breakfast in nature, followed by time to explore the archaeological site of Waqrapukara. Your spiritual guide will explain more about its history and significance. Once a fortress, sanctuary, and astronomical observatory, Waqrapukara also served as a religious center, protected by watchtowers and underground roads, and believed to have housed nobility.
You will visit the main plaza and take in the breathtaking views over the Apurimac canyon before hiking back along the same trail. After lunch, an Andean Shaman will lead a Mother Earth Offering near the site, creating a meaningful moment to connect with this powerful place and express gratitude to Pachamama for all that She provides. Later, you will return to Cusco.

Yes. Some trekking experiences include ceremonies led by local Q'eros Shamans, such as Cleansing Ceremonies, Coca Leaf Readings, and Mother Earth Offerings, adding a meaningful cultural and spiritual dimension to the journey.
Waqrapukara dates back to the Inca Empire and is believed to have served as a fortress, sanctuary, and astronomical observatory. Its mountain-top location offered both strategic defense and a strong connection to celestial observation. The name means “Horn Fortress” in Quechua, inspired by the site’s horn-like rock formations. For Andean communities, the area remains spiritually significant as a place where nature, ancestry, and sacred energy meet.
