This 3-day journey brings together the dramatic beauty of the snow-covered Ausangate Mountain, the vivid colors of Rainbow Mountain, and the striking landscapes of the Red Valley. Guided by an Andean Shaman from Q’eros, the trek includes ancestral ceremonies designed to deepen your connection with yourself, the Apus, and Mother Nature. It is an inspiring way to explore Andean Cosmovision while walking one of the region’s most powerful routes.
Throughout the experience, your Andean Shaman from Q’eros leads sacred ceremonies that invite reflection, intention-setting, and a profound connection with the natural world. This is more than a trek — it is a spiritual path through high-altitude landscapes and living traditions.
In the early morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and travel through the Vilcanota Valley, passing scenic mountain views and traditional villages. After about 3 hours, you will arrive in Pacchanta and enjoy a nourishing breakfast.
The spiritual part of the journey begins with an Andean Blessing Ceremony and meditation session guided by the Andean Shaman. This moment is designed to align your intentions and connect you with sacred Ausangate. Afterwards, the hike begins with a gradual descent toward the campsite at Upispampa (4440m / 14,567ft). There, you can relax in the hot springs (not included), watch the sunset, and enjoy dinner. After dinner, there is also the option to soak again in the pools while stargazing.
After breakfast, the trek continues with an ascent to Pucacocha pass (4930m / 16,174ft). From the top, you will take in unforgettable views of Ausangate’s snow-covered peaks, glaciers, and lagoons in shades from turquoise to deep blue. The route then descends toward the Hananpata campsite (4750m / 15,584 ft), with sweeping views of the Cordillera on one side and the colorful mountains of the Red Valley of Vinicunca on the other.
Along the way, you will take part in a special cleansing ceremony led by the Andean Shaman, offering a meaningful opportunity to purify body, mind, and spirit. By evening, you will arrive at camp, where the clear skies create an ideal setting for observing the Milky Way.
On the final day, an early start at 4:30 am ensures you reach Rainbow Mountain among the first visitors. You will hike up Warmisaya pass (5020m / 16,469ft) and catch your first view of Vinicunca Mountain. After enjoying the Red Valley scenery, you will continue for about 2 more hours until reaching Rainbow Mountain, where there will be time for photos before descending to Chillihuani for lunch.
During the journey back, a Mother Earth Offering is performed as a farewell ceremony, expressing gratitude to the spirits and to nature. You will then return to Cusco, with arrival expected at approximately 4 pm.
Yes. This trek is not only a physical challenge, but also a spiritual journey that brings you into contact with ancient traditions, the natural world, and your own inner process. The presence of the Q’eros Shaman adds a meaningful ceremonial dimension through rituals, blessings, and offerings rooted in Andean tradition.
In Andean cosmology, an Apu is a sacred mountain believed to hold both physical and spiritual power. Ausangate is regarded as a living spirit that bridges the earthly and spiritual worlds, carrying prayers and messages to the heavens. It is also honored as a guardian of local communities and a source of protection and essential water.
The trek is moderately challenging due to altitude changes and varied terrain. You do not need to be an expert hiker, but a reasonable level of fitness will help you enjoy the experience more comfortably.
The best period is the dry season, from May to September. Weather is generally more stable, with less rain and comfortable daytime temperatures of around 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F). Nights can be cold, especially at higher elevations, so warm layers are essential. The rainy season, from October to April, is less suitable for trekking.
Prior hiking experience is recommended, as the route includes demanding sections and high-altitude terrain. That said, the guides are experienced in supporting trekkers of different levels and will help maintain a safe, steady pace throughout the journey.
Arriving in Cusco a few days early is ideal so your body can adjust gradually. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and tobacco, hike slowly, rest well, and choose light, nutritious meals. Coca leaves or coca tea may also help with altitude discomfort. Dressing in layers is important, as cold temperatures can intensify symptoms. Mild effects such as shortness of breath, headaches, or fatigue are common, but if symptoms become severe, inform your guide immediately.
Bring comfortable hiking clothing, sturdy footwear, warm layers, rain gear, a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle.
