Spend a remarkable three days exploring the meeting point of Eastern contemplative practice and Western running on scenic high-altitude mountain trails. This retreat invites you to run and walk together, while also turning inward through meditation and yoga to reconnect with the “Immoveable Spot” within. The program brings together meditation instruction and practice, yoga designed specifically for runners, group discussions, and shared runs, all guided by experienced teachers across these three disciplines. The result is a refreshing inner and outer reset, ideal for anyone training for a fall marathon or looking to weave running and meditation into everyday life.
A guiding principle of the retreat is simple: “Movement is good for the Body; Stillness is good for the Mind.” At the same time, movement can also support the mind through the production of BDNF and other neurotrophic factors released when we run.
Do I have to be a runner and/or a meditator already to participate?
No running or meditation experience is required.
What level of activity can I anticipate?
Running and walking sessions are tailored to each person and take high altitude into account. The land of DMC ranges from 7,500′ to 8,500′, with nearby trails reaching even higher elevations.
Are all activities and sessions required?
Participants are free to join some or all of the group activities.
Why did past participants love this retreat?
“I keep coming back to the Running with the Mind retreat — three times thus far! — because every time I discover another new skill to bring contemplation and attentiveness to my running, and to use the joy of moving my body to deepen my meditation practice.” Read more about the retreat, as well as past participants’ takeaways, in this article from the Daily Camera.
