Set in the stunning Arrabida Natural Park on Portugal’s western coast, this retreat offers a welcoming escape for anyone looking to slow down, deepen their yoga practice, and reconnect with themselves in a beautiful natural setting.
Arrivals begin in the afternoon around 3pm on Tuesday 20th October, with the first practice taking place that evening in the indoor yoga space. Over the following five days, the program includes morning and afternoon yoga sessions, guided meditation, breathwork, Tai Chi, a beach excursion, planting and drawing sessions, and time to explore the surrounding park on a gentle stroll or hike if desired. There will also be playful movement through playground sessions and an inversions clinic. Plenty of free time is built in for rest, swimming, the steam room, a cold plunge, treatments, or simply time for writing, painting, or any personal project you have been meaning to begin. Departure is after practice and breakfast on Saturday 24th October, around 11.30am.
The teaching is rooted in the wisdom of classical yoga and designed to support a deeper, more spacious relationship with your practice. Classes will draw on Sivananda, Hatha, and Yoga Flow, with influences from other movement styles woven into the sequencing. Each session includes adaptations and progressions, making the retreat suitable for a wide range of experience levels. The teacher will offer alignment support and adjustments, helping you refine postures, explore questions, and build a richer understanding of your practice. With more time than a weekly class allows, there is room to move playfully and explore more deeply.
The retreat venue blends traditional Portuguese character with modern elegance. Earthy stone facades sit naturally among rolling hills, while wide terraces shaded by centuries-old oak trees create a peaceful place to relax. Wooden shutters open to views of the river and valley, and natural light fills the rooms beneath terracotta roof tiles.
There are at least 10 rooms, all ensuite, with twin or double bed options.
Guests will enjoy a nourishing natural vegetarian menu designed to support energy and emotional wellbeing. All meals can be adapted to dietary requirements. Three meals a day are provided, and tea, coffee, fruit, and water are available 24 hours a day. Breakfast is served on the final morning before departure.
Prices begin from £900 for a shared room or £1050 for single occupancy.

All levels are welcome, and group classes are supported with expert guidance so you can progress at your own pace while enjoying the connection between movement and breath. It is an opportunity to step away from daily stress, reconnect with yourself, and rediscover joy in practice.
Sara and Akhil are not aligned with any single organisation or guru. Instead, they draw inspiration from the broader yogic traditions and share them in a way that feels accessible, lighthearted, and grounded. Their approach is rooted in the belief that yoga does not need to feel intimidating or exclusive; it can be simple, deep, and uniquely personal for each practitioner.
Both are experienced yoga teachers and body specialists. Akhil, born in India, brings a deep cultural understanding of yoga, along with experience in massage, mountaineering, climbing, and healing work. His attention to individual needs and human anatomy is profound. Sara, a former martial arts practitioner and triathlete, combines knowledge of movement, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and restorative practices, informed by her own recovery journey and training in pre- and postnatal exercise. Their teaching style is essentially classical Hatha yoga.
Transfers can be arranged at £15-30 per person depending on numbers. Quinta do Rio in Arrabida Natural Park is about a 35-minute drive from Lisbon, making rental car travel straightforward via either the Vasco da Gama Bridge or the 25th of April Bridge before continuing south toward the park.
The quinta is close to beaches such as Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha, as well as historic sites including the 16th-century Arrábida Convent and Cabo Espichel. The area also offers dolphin watching, kayaking, local markets, castles, and viewpoints, with Setúbal, Sintra, and Lisbon nearby. One beach outing is arranged and guests may choose whether or not to join after arrival.
The Weather
October is typically a pleasant time to visit, with temperatures around 16-25 degrees and fewer crowds than in summer. The sea is around 20 degrees, making it suitable for swimming. Light clothing is recommended, along with a sweater or jacket for cooler evenings, plus a rain jacket or small umbrella for occasional showers. Sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable shoes with good grip are also advised.

In this energizing yoga session, Sara guides participants through a full-body practice designed to awaken strength, mobility, and focus. Expect a dynamic sequence that weaves together backbends, inversions, and sun salutations, creating a balanced experience that feels both uplifting and grounding. Along the way, she introduces Ujjayi Pranayama, also known as the “victorious breath,” a breathwork technique that can help...
