The Pachakuti Mesa Apprenticeship is an 18-month ceremony of initiation and transformation, unfolding through five in-person weekend intensives at Star River Sanctuary. Between each gathering, participants have 3–6 months for practice, reflection, and integration, allowing the teachings to settle deeply into daily life.
Rooted in the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition, this five-part series offers cross-cultural shamanic arts for personal and planetary renewal. It brings together the traditional shamanic arts of Peru with the needs of our present moment, inviting participants into a living path of harmony, healing, and earth stewardship.
Pachakuti means “world reversal,” a powerful phrase that speaks to the transformational time we are living through. A mesa is a sacred altar for self-exploration, personal growth, and transformation, supporting a new relationship with the Self and the Universe. Through this evolving practice, participants are guided toward greater balance in their relationships with all that is.
This apprenticeship is open to anyone who feels called to be of service, whether they are new to the tradition or already experienced as mesa carriers. Along the way, participants deepen their connection to nature and the unseen world while receiving many opportunities for self-inquiry, empowerment, and profound growth.
This opening workshop initiates participants into the Pachakuti Mesa, a sacred and powerful altar. Students learn how to create their own mesas and use them for self-empowerment, transformation, and service to others. Through shamanic journeying and visionary states of consciousness, participants explore the three worlds of the Andean cosmovision, sacred reciprocity, ceremonial mastery, sacred sound and ritual language, healing and curanderismo, and the inner world of the Ukhupacha.
This intensive focuses on the center of the mesa, traditional Peruvian healing practices, and the Kaypacha, the middle world. Participants explore its elemental matrix and magico-spiritual power, along with the moon’s role in the middle world, mapping the cosmos on Earth, and themes of celestial death and rebirth.
This workshop introduces the Paqokuna, the Andean Shaman/Priesthood mystical path, the lineage of the sacred mountains, and the five virtues of the mesa. Participants also journey into the Hanaqpacha, the upper world beyond the physical, deepening their connection to the unseen world and to their own spiritual resources.
Students experience the upper world and its lightning bolt of mystical illumination, as well as the flow of kamasqa, the power of Creation. They work with the elements, the forces of the universe, the body of Mother Earth, and sacred healing objects. In sacred reciprocity, participants create despachos to honor Mother Earth, the sacred mountains, the elements, and the unseen world, and prepare for a paqowachu, a sacred pilgrimage.
This final workshop deepens the experience of soul and spirit through ritual process, including the spiritual creation, activation, and care of an apacheta. Students work with the power of creation in the kaypacha, dimensionality and time, the three suns, and the hampikamayoq process, ancient breathing techniques for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being and transformation.
All weekends take place at Star River Sanctuary, a beautiful eco retreat on Crystal Mountain, just above Nelson, BC. Participants can enjoy delicious meals, pristine air and water, remarkable natural beauty, and the support of kind, knowledgeable hosts.

In my mid-20s, my brother and I bought a raw parcel of land in the wilds of British Columbia. For years, I returned there for long stretches of solitude, quietly building a small cabin and working closely with the land. That time gave me the space my soul needed to begin asking deeper questions about who I was and what...
