Our experienced Byron Yoga Centre team is here to complement Simon Toohey and support your journey with warmth and integrity. With decades of experience and a genuine love for what we do, our teachers guide you with compassion and presence.
Simon Toohey is a passionate advocate for sustainable, plant-focused cooking and one of Australia’s most recognisable foodie personalities. He rose to prominence on MasterChef Australia, where he placed in the Top 3 in 2019, and quickly became known for making vegetables exciting, creative, and accessible.
Since then, he has hosted Freshly Picked on Channel 10, launched a popular vegan smokehouse in Melbourne, and co-founded the Sustainable Earth Network, a platform dedicated to whole ingredients, zero-waste cooking, and reconnecting people with where their food comes from.
With qualifications in Hospitality, Tourism, and a Master’s in Gastronomy, Simon brings culinary expertise together with a warm, down-to-earth teaching style. On this retreat, his hands-on workshops will inspire a fresh, joyful, and sustainable approach to plant-based cooking.
John Ogilvie is the CEO and Founder of Byron Yoga Centre, and one of Australia’s most respected and experienced teachers.
He has been practising yoga for more than 45 years and teaching for over 40. After 20 years of disciplined training across the Iyengar and Ashtanga lineages, John developed his signature style, Purna Yoga. This method integrates asanas, breathing techniques, meditation, and philosophical principles.
John’s teaching emphasises safety through intelligent sequencing, individual attention, hands-on assists, and the use of props to support alignment. His style is clear, accessible, and encouraging, inviting students to listen to their own bodies and work at the level that suits them.
Our Nourish your Soul retreat runs from 3pm Friday to 3pm Sunday, with the option to arrive earlier on Friday to enjoy the grounds or settle in with a cup of herbal tea. From 2pm, you’ll meet your retreat hosts and access your room, easing gently into the weekend.
The experience begins on Friday afternoon with an opening circle led by Simon Toohey and John Ogilvie, followed by a soothing Restorative yoga session designed to help your body fully exhale. Each day starts with a grounding and energising yoga practice and a wholesome vegetarian breakfast.
The weekend unfolds with hands-on cooking workshops with Simon, a farm-to-plate garden tour with John, long-table lunches, and time to relax in the sauna, book a massage, or simply rest. Evenings are calm and cosy, with gentle yoga, nourishing meals, and dessert by the fire prepared by Simon himself.
This weekend is designed to offer the perfect balance of structure and spaciousness, so you feel supported, inspired, and deeply cared for throughout your stay.
At Byron Yoga Centre, we believe your accommodation is an important part of the wellness experience. Our rooms are simple, comfortable, and suited to a range of preferences and budgets, whether you choose a twin room with a shared bathroom or a private ensuite room with a verandah.
For this special retreat with Simon Toohey, our menu expands to include mushrooms, onion, and garlic — a first for Byron Yoga Centre. Much of the fresh produce still comes from our onsite organic gardens, and every meal is designed to be nourishing, balanced, and full of natural flavour.
You’ll enjoy meals created in collaboration between Simon and our Byron Yoga Centre kitchen team, along with the chance to join Simon for hands-on workshops and learn how to create delicious, wholesome plant-based dishes at home.
As a retreat guest, you’ll enjoy exclusive access to our 15 acres of retreat land. Wander through 3 acres of organic fruit, vegetable, and herb gardens, swim in our solar-heated 20 metre mineral salt pool rich in magnesium, relax in the Balé among the banana trees, or use one of our on-site bikes to explore town and the local beaches.
Our retreats are suitable for yogis of all experience levels, including beginners. The yoga at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre is called Purna, meaning integrated or complete, and offers a holistic approach that includes physical postures, meditation, pranayama breath exercises, and philosophy.
