This two-day workshop offers an introduction to Indigenous basketry traditions rooted in Yosemite Ahwahneechee, Mono Lake Paiute, Coast Miwok, and Kashia Pomo lineages.
With hands-on guidance, participants will explore foundational weaving techniques using natural materials while creating their own basket from start to finish. The experience is designed to be both practical and reflective, inviting you to connect with the materials, the form, and the deeper cultural meaning behind this living craft.
Step by step, you will be guided through the process of building a basket from the ground up. Along the way, you’ll learn how natural materials respond, how tension shapes structure, and how subtle adjustments can influence the final result. By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a completed basket and a richer appreciation for this precious tradition and its enduring roots in community and knowledge-sharing.
