Discover the waterfalls of Aguas Calientes and the magic of one of the world’s most iconic wonders.
This 2-day experience combines the awe of Machu Picchu with the natural beauty of Aguas Calientes. Along the way, you’ll also get to know the local village at the foot of the Inca citadel and take in its warm tropical atmosphere. A mindful moment with your guide adds a calm, reflective touch to the journey.
In the early morning, you’ll be picked up in Cusco and driven for about 1.5 hours to Ollantaytambo train station. From there, you’ll continue by train to Aguas Calientes, the main access point for Machu Picchu. After lunch and time to settle into your 3-star hotel, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the village’s relaxed, small-town feel.
You may explore Machu Picchu town independently or join the guide to visit nearby highlights. Depending on the weather and your preference, you can choose a waterfall located just a 20-minute walk away, or take a 45-minute walk through tropical forest to reach Alcamayo waterfall. Swimming is not permitted, but the area offers peaceful spots to sit, unwind, and connect with nature. Here, you’ll also share a mindful moment with the guide before returning to the hotel for a restful evening.
After breakfast, you’ll take a 30-minute bus ride up to the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Once through the checkpoint, the guided visit begins, with time to explore the site in detail and learn about Inca history and the purpose of Machu Picchu. There will also be plenty of time for photos and for simply absorbing the atmosphere of this World Wonder. After the visit, you’ll return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy. From there, transfer staff will take you safely back to Cusco.
If you need to cancel or would like more information about refunds, please refer to the Terms and Conditions. If anything is unclear, feel free to reach out with your questions.
Since this is a 2-day visit in Aguas Calientes without hiking, we recommend packing:
Please note that the train company allows only small luggage such as hand luggage, small suitcases, and backpacks. Large bags are not permitted.
Yes, but you must let us know in advance. There is an additional cost of $60 USD, and availability is limited because tickets sell out quickly.
The dry season, from May to September, is generally the best time to visit, offering clearer skies and more stable weather. June to August is the busiest period. April and October can also be excellent choices, with fewer visitors and still relatively dry conditions. Because Machu Picchu is popular year-round, advance planning is always recommended.
The main site is generally suitable for a wide range of fitness levels, with paved walkways that are manageable for most visitors. However, hikes such as Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain are steeper and require a higher level of fitness. The site sits at around 2,430 meters above sea level, so acclimatization is important.
Machu Picchu is located at approximately 2,430 meters above sea level. To prepare, it helps to spend a day or two in Cusco or nearby before the visit, stay well hydrated, eat light meals, rest well, and move at a gentle pace.
