Kambo is a traditional practice based on the secretion of the giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), a species native to the Amazon rainforest, especially in Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela. In many cultural traditions, it is regarded as a powerful tool for purification, believed to help cleanse the body of toxins while supporting the release of mental and spiritual negativity.
Supporters of kambo ceremonies often associate the practice with benefits such as:
A kambo session begins with the application of the secretion after tiny, superficial burn points are made on the skin. From there, the substance enters the lymphatic system and quickly moves toward the heart. Those who work with kambo believe this process helps guide the body back toward balance, directing the medicine where healing is most needed.
The experience is often described as intense. Participants may feel a strong wave of heat, along with cramps, localized pain, and nausea. Purging is common and is frequently understood as part of the cleansing process, often followed by a sense of relief and completion. Many also believe the effects continue beyond the ceremony itself, working on both body and mind.
Kambo is widely spoken of as a practice that can purify, detox, cleanse, and reset the immune system. Its natural compounds are thought to stimulate bodily processes that support circulation and lymphatic drainage, encouraging the body’s own detox pathways.
On a deeper level, kambo is often connected to emotional release and inner renewal. The frog’s ability to survive only in untouched environments is seen as a meaningful symbol, inviting participants to let go of anger, hatred, and bitterness. This release is considered an important part of the journey, often described as a process of restoration, transformation, and renewed clarity.
Kambo holds an important place in indigenous Amazonian healing traditions, where it is used in ceremonial settings under the guidance of skilled practitioners. These ceremonies reflect a holistic view of well-being, bringing together physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.
Because kambo is highly potent, it should always be approached with care, especially by individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Consultation with experienced practitioners and healthcare professionals is strongly advised before participating.
At Flower of Life Ayahuasca, ceremonies are held in proper conditions with close supervision from an experienced team of healers. Safety and well-being remain the top priority, and participants are welcomed with respect and care throughout the experience.
