Discover the wrecks scattered through Iron Bottom Sound, a historic diving region shaped by some of the fiercest battles of World War II in the South Pacific. Place names such as Bloody Ridge, Red Beach, Skyline Ridge, and Henderson Field still echo the intensity of the fighting that took place here.
The Battle of Guadalcanal, known as Operation Watchtower, marked a major Allied victory in the Pacific theater. Together with the Battle of Midway, it is widely regarded as a turning point in the war against Japan in the South Pacific.
During this 10-day itinerary aboard Master Liveaboards’ Solomons Master, divers will explore a remarkable collection of WWII shipwrecks and aircraft from both the US and Japanese forces. Sites range from 10-280′ / 3-85 meters, with most dives in the 115-200′ / 35-60 meter range. Conditions vary from wreck to wreck: some remain largely intact, while others were heavily damaged and are now broken apart. Diving on the deeper wrecks is weather-dependent.
Because of the depth profile, the schedule will usually include a maximum of 2 dives per day. A 3rd dive may be possible if the first two do not exceed 45 meters. The Cruise Director will set the daily plan based on depth and travel time between locations. Village visits or land excursions may also be offered on selected days.
11 days/10 nights/9 days of diving, double occupancy accommodation, meals and non-alcoholic beverages while on the vessel, and transfers from the staging hotel in Honiara.
Also included are a trip packet and gift, a professional dive leader, and logistics planning.
