Looking for an experience that feels truly different? Hummingbird House sits in Cornville, just a 25-minute drive from Sedona, in an area known for the same vortex energy and electro-magnetic anomalies measured by the U.S. Geological Society. Set 75 feet above Oak Creek, this peaceful countryside property offers a serene setting that feels expansive, heart-opening, and deeply restorative.
Daniel and his wife, Valerie, live here with Sita the dog and Moonie the cat. On their 2-acre property, you’ll find a Native American-style medicine wheel and a purification sweat lodge, both created to support a meaningful journey inward. The land is also home to deer, bobcat, rabbit, squirrels, chipmunks, mice, hawks, eagles, herons, lizards, and roadrunners.
The medicine wheel was originally conceived by Dana Ross and later moved stone by stone, along with buckets of gravel, by Daniel and Dana. It was first reassembled and blessed in Uptown Sedona by local shamans and medicine men and women, then carefully moved and rebuilt again in Cornville after Daniel and Valerie became the caretakers of the property. In the morning, participants begin with a 30-minute walking meditation around the medicine wheel at the front of the house, using each direction—South, West, North, and East—as a way to reflect on different seasons and aspects of life.
From there, the experience continues with a 30-minute walking meditation down the steep path to the purification lodge below. The descent includes 108 hand-built steps, created over more than seven years by Artie Lookinghawk, leading 75 feet down to Oak Creek. Along the way, take in the valley, the creek, cottonwood trees, birds of prey, llamas and horses across the water, and sacred Sugarloaf Mountain to the left, where protected indigenous ruins are located.
As you explore the property, you may also spot gnomes, fairies, meditating lions, and unicorns hidden among the landscape. The steps are tall but sturdy, so move slowly and stay fully present throughout the journey. Unless you have serious hip, knee, or heart issues, the path should be manageable—and by the fourth or fifth time, it becomes much easier.
Once everyone gathers again, there is time to ground, reflect, and share what arose during the meditations. This is a powerful opportunity to look more deeply at personal questions such as purpose, life direction, and emotional patterns. Daniel then offers his wisdom, knowledge, spiritual insight, and intuition, informed by what each participant shares about their emotional, relational, or physical experience.
Whether you are seeking recovery, healing, or spiritual expansion, this session offers the chance for greater clarity and a shift in perspective. Afterward, participants change into clothing suitable for the ceremonial sweat and purification, usually shorts for men and a conservative skirt or dress for women. The stones, known as the Grandfathers and Grandmothers, have been preparing in the sacred fire for hours and are invited into the ceremony one by one, where they are blessed with sage, chapparal, and rosemary. Water is then poured to release energy as steam and to bless the participants and their prayers.
The experience concludes with a refreshing cold plunge into Oak Creek, followed by a slow 108-step ascent and a delicious lunch enjoyed on one of four patios—North, South, East, or West—each offering a distinct view.
