Bali is often described as the playground of the gods, yet many communities here continue to live without the welfare support systems found elsewhere. In particular, orphaned children and families facing financial hardship can be left with very limited long-term support, especially within a society where family structure and lineage play such an important role.
Bliss Sanctuary For Women is committed to giving back to the Balinese community, with proceeds from every booking contributing to a humanitarian fund that supports children through carefully selected organisations, including Bali Children Foundation (BCF) and Bali Kids.
Founder Zoë Watson chose to align the sanctuary with organisations that already understand local needs and are working within the community in meaningful ways. As Zoë explains, it takes time to understand the real needs of another culture within its own value systems and social structures. For this reason, BCF and Bali Kids were selected to help provide children with education and healthcare, giving them and the communities around them greater opportunity, confidence, and the chance to create positive change in their own lives.
The focus is on the essentials that help children and families move beyond survival mode. That includes making sure children have enough food, access to basic healthcare, and the support they need to build better futures rather than being forced into work from a very young age because their families depend on small incomes.
The initiative also helps fund university education for children who might otherwise have had no path to higher learning. For a child once expected to live an uneducated life in rural Bali, the opportunity to become a doctor, nurse, or teacher and return home to support others is a powerful transformation.
Changing the cycle for these communities matters deeply. Organisations such as Bali Children Foundation have been doing this work successfully for many years, helping children survive, flourish, and grow into lives filled with promise and care. The goal is to help build a stronger, more vibrant Bali for the future.
If you are planning to visit Bliss Sanctuary For Women or Bali and would like to contribute, you are welcome to bring children’s clothing, especially t-shirts, shorts, and dresses, as well as books, basic toys, pencils, and paper. These are among the most needed items for orphanages and schools, and they are passed on to BCF for distribution where they are most needed.
Through BCF, generous donations have also supported computers, school supplies, hygiene needs, and tertiary education funding for children.
Guests are generally not encouraged to visit the Bali orphanages directly, as repeated visits can place pressure on the orphanages and local communities. Instead, the intention is to support a sense of normalcy and dignity, trusting the chosen organisations to distribute donations responsibly, often to rural areas and low-income communities living off the land.

Bliss Sanctuary for Women was created when I realized I needed time away for myself after feeling exhausted and in need of a holiday. What I found at the time were conventional health, detox, spa, surf, wellness, and yoga retreats. Yet I was not searching for a group holiday or a women’s retreat where every moment was scheduled for me....
