Embark on an inspiring journey that weaves together music, gentle movement, and deep rest. Held in Stolzenhagen, this retreat offers a special opportunity to learn how to play the handpan or to meaningfully deepen the skills you already have. The program is complemented by morning yoga and meditation sessions, thoughtfully organized by the seminar house to help bring body and mind into a harmonious balance.
The accommodation is set in an idyllic landscape of picturesque lakes, lush forests, and open meadows. During your free time, you can go for a swim, explore the surrounding nature on foot, or simply unwind at the guesthouse. Meals are also taken care of: they are regional, organically produced, and prepared with great care—fresh, balanced, and nourishing.
Across two daily sessions, you will develop your technique, musicality, and joy of playing—without pressure and always at your own pace. This retreat is ideal for beginners as well as those with a little prior experience. No previous knowledge is required, and you do not need to bring your own instrument, as a handpan will be provided on site. If you prefer to bring your own, it should be a 440 Hz D Kurd instrument.
Immerse yourself in the distinctive sound of the handpan and discover how music can set you in motion. Step by step, you will find your own rhythm, your sense of flow, and a feeling of ease. In guided sessions, you will learn playfully how to combine rhythm and timing, understand complex structures and patterns, and enter a natural playing flow through the proven MalteMartenMethod.
You will explore different tonal colors and dynamics, shape your personal expression, and transform small motifs into complete melodies. Space for improvisation and composition invites you to develop your own ideas—both individually and in shared playing. During group jamming, moments arise that are filled with joy, deep connection, and musical vitality.
Katrin Engelke lives her passion for the handpan and invites you to enter the sound world of this special instrument through her retreats. Whether you are a beginner or already have some playing experience, she guides you with ease and musical intuition. In a relaxed atmosphere, you will discover different playing techniques, develop a feel for rhythm and melody, and experience music as a moment of calm and inspiration.
Katrin’s retreats create space for experimentation, conscious listening, and allowing the gentle vibrations of the handpan to touch you. Katrin is a trained teacher of the proven MalteMartenMethod.
