A traditional 5+ day Ayurvedic retreat, this experience is designed to clear ama, rekindle agni, and support healing across body, mind, and spirit.
Panchakarma is the classic Ayurvedic cleansing and rejuvenation process, created to restore balance and help the whole system renew itself from within.
Over time, age, seasonal shifts, poor diet, habits, lifestyle patterns, suppressed emotions, and stress can disturb our natural equilibrium. This may weaken agni, encourage toxin buildup, and allow deep-seated emotional residue to settle into the tissues. In this process, even fat-soluble toxins such as plastic residue, xeno-hormones, pesticides, and heavy metals may be addressed effectively.
Rather than forcing the body, Panchakarma works with its natural intelligence, supporting it to release excess and reclaim what is essential. By clearing obstacles to that intelligence, the physiology becomes more integrated, immunity is supported, and the wear of aging is softened.
The purpose of this science is both preventive and restorative: to protect the health of the healthy and support healing for those who are unwell. Ancient texts also describe Panchakarma as a seasonal rejuvenation treatment that helps maintain balance throughout the year.
Benefits of Panchakarma
Purvakarma
Your Panchakarma begins with approximately 5 days of preparation, including internal ghee, dietary changes, digestive spices and herbs, and self-massage. This preparatory phase is tailored to each individual.
Daily Panchakarma Treatments
You may receive 5+ days of Panchakarma with us. Each day is guided by 1 or 2 Ayurvedic therapists who select treatments according to your constitution and daily process. These sessions are intended to deeply relax the body and mind, improve energy flow by opening circulation channels, and prepare the body to release excess ama on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
A typical session begins with an Ayurvedic consultation, including pulse assessment and a review of what you need that day.
You may also be guided through personalized yoga, pranayama, and meditation before or after your treatments.
Your first treatment will likely be abhyanga, a warm oil massage performed by 1 or 2 therapists. Marma Chikitsa is included in the daily abhyanga, with pressure applied to vital healing points that influence the organs and subtle channels of the body.
You will also receive svedana, a therapeutic sweat therapy offered in a steam tent, sauna, body wrap, or bath with essential oils and herbal decoctions. This helps open circulation channels and supports the release of impurities through the skin and gastrointestinal tract.
An herbal or sea salt scrub may follow to stimulate circulation, support the lymphatic system, and strengthen immunity.
Another traditional treatment is Netra Basti, in which a dough ring is placed around the eyes and warm ghee is poured inside to nourish the optic nerves. This treatment soothes the nervous system, supports eye healing, and brings clarity to the mind.
You will also receive Shirodhara, often called the Queen of Ayurvedic treatments, where a continuous stream of warm herbal oil is poured onto the forehead to calm the mind and expand consciousness. It may help activate the pituitary gland, support hormonal balance, awaken the third eye, stimulate cognitive memory, and invite blissful states.
Clients may also receive other traditional Ayurvedic treatments for back pain and additional concerns.
Chakra balancing with color and sound healing may be used to integrate and energize the body’s subtle system, supporting emotional release and helping clear related physical blocks.
The 5 karmas are: vamana, virechana, basti, nasya, and rakta-moksha. These cleansing actions are offered carefully and at the appropriate time, based on your individual needs, and more details are shared during consultation.
A note about your meals
You will follow a simple mono-diet made up of variations of basmati rice, quinoa, mung dal, red dal, seasonal and doshic vegetables, herbs and spices, and herbal teas. During the week, you are asked to avoid meat, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, cruciferous or nightshade vegetables, dairy except ghee, wheat, bread, pasta, salads, and most fruits. Many clients find this diet satisfying, while allowing the body’s energy to focus on cleansing and healing rather than complex digestion.
Paschatkarma ~ Rasayana
After your PK is complete, you will receive an at-home rejuvenation plan focused on diet, herbs, and lifestyle.
