If you are longing for time in the bush, space to learn, and a chance to slow down, this is a meaningful escape from the pressure of city life and social expectations.
This all-inclusive bush retreat includes accommodation, all meals, and the activities outlined in the itinerary.
Not included: drinks, any applicable conservation fees for the National Park, personal expenses, and tips.
Hambana Lifestyle Lodge is set at the meeting point of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana, inside the Thaba Bolayi Private Nature Reserve in Greater Mapungubwe. It is not the Kruger, yet it is located within 2 hours of Kruger National Park and 30 minutes from Mapungubwe National Park.
This region is among the last remaining stretches of untouched South Africa, with a landscape that has stayed largely unchanged for thousands of years. The reserve is home to the world’s highest concentration of giant baobab trees, many of them between 800 and 3500 years old.
Behind the lodge are the remains of a village where a king and queen once lived in 450 AD, and artefacts still emerge from the earth. Visitors to these places often feel deeply moved; some experience goosebumps, while others begin to cry without knowing why.
We have witnessed this many times. A man from the city recently arrived, and by the time he reached the original baobab tree, he was in tears and could not stop, even though he did not see himself as emotional.
This land has a powerful effect on people. Guests who stay for several days often return to their inner selves and their roots. They begin reflecting on what has happened in their lives and how they want to move forward. Many leave feeling transformed.
This is not a retreat built around a strict schedule of workshops and sessions. Instead, the bush, the silence, the ancient trees, and the stories naturally do the work.
As nature guides who have spent our lives in this landscape, we will take you deeper into the area, show you what most visitors never get to see, and share the culture, ancestors, and history that live here.
This retreat is ideal for anyone who feels the need to step away from a busy life and reconnect with what has been forgotten. You do not need to be spiritual or believe in anything specific.
You only need to be open to slowing down, being present, and allowing the place to do its work. Solo travellers are welcome and safe. Couples often find reconnection here. The lodge is small, family-run, and personal, with staff on-site around the clock. Most guests arrive as strangers and leave feeling like family.
Set within Hambana Lifestyle Lodge, Lodge room X offers a romantic stay beneath a thatched roof and spans a generous 40m². A comfortable double bed is provided for a restful night, while the room opens onto beautiful views of the lush garden and the historic Rainmakers rock.
Thoughtful amenities include a Smart TV with Netflix, a fridge, and a water kettle, along with air conditioning and mosquito nets for added comfort. The room is designed for 2 adults and forms part of a larger heritage property with a year-round outdoor swimming pool, a communal self-catering kitchen, an on-site restaurant, and a range of activities.
Guests can also unwind on the Baobab Terrace or gather around the Boma's and fire places. Free WiFi is available throughout the property, and free parking is included.
