French Immersion: Language, Cuisine, Culture
Step into a version of France that feels lived-in, welcoming, and real. This experience is for guests who want to move through French life with more ease: to be recognized at the market, to follow wine conversations more naturally, and to enjoy meals the French way, with time, conversation, and connection. Guided by hosts who know how to open the door to authentic language and culture, you’ll experience France from the inside out rather than from a distance.
Your French language teacher understands what it means to learn as an outsider and knows where learners often get stuck. With her support, and with daily life unfolding around you at a Dordogne château, you’ll practice French in meaningful settings that build confidence. A professional personal chef prepares château meals that reveal the essence of French cuisine, while markets, tastings, cooking lessons, and long dinners create constant opportunities to use what you learn. This is a small-group retreat with no classroom pressure, just immersive practice in the France you’ve been trying to access.

Beyond Textbook French
This retreat is not about memorizing grammar in isolation. Instead, it focuses on applying structured French in real situations: using natural phrasing during château tours, improving pronunciation while ordering at markets, and building fluency through conversations over chef-prepared meals.
Meet Elodie, your French language mentor who believes fluency grows through connection, not memorization. Her approach combines expert language teaching with an immersive château setting, helping you move beyond hesitation and into confident communication. Progress comes through wine conversations, market exchanges, and stories shared in French that bring history and daily life to the forefront.
French Life Beyond the Lessons
From breakfast conversations at the château to walks through medieval streets, you’ll settle into the rhythm of French living. Wine tastings, regional meals, and guided visits to Hautefort and Jumilhac châteaux all become part of your learning, making French feel practical, natural, and alive.
French That Clicks
Daily sessions with Elodie are designed to feel relaxed and encouraging, like speaking with a friend who knows exactly how to help you progress. The conversation-first approach replaces anxiety with real interaction through market visits, wine discovery, chef-prepared regional meals, and time spent with locals.
Immersive Practice Opportunities
You may find yourself asking a château guide about 16th-century architecture, bargaining at the local market with growing confidence, and noticing how naturally French begins to flow when the conversation is genuine.
Culinary Experiences
Your local personal chef brings the flavours of the Périgord to the table on four evenings, with dinner included in your retreat. Breakfast and lunch are provided by your hosts throughout the stay. On the remaining three nights, the group dines out together in regional restaurants at your own expense.
Cultural Context Learning
Explore Hautefort’s grand spaces and Jumilhac’s fairy-tale towers while practicing French that connects language with history. Medieval towns become part of your classroom, where every cobblestone adds context to what you’re learning.
Château Environment
Your 16th-century home offers the ideal setting for natural conversation, from morning coffee in the garden to evening storytelling by the fireplace with fellow language adventurers.
Relaxation & Connection
Between sessions, enjoy time to unwind, take leisurely walks through the grounds, capture memories, and let your progress settle in.

What Guests Say
About Elodie: “I was lucky to have been introduced to Elodie two years ago while I was looking to further my French after arriving in Geneva. Since then, my French has noticeably improved dramatically thanks to her classes. Though online, her classes are all but boring; they are dynamic and well-tailored to my level and changing needs. Elodie is empathetic and has a knack for teaching a foreign language in a fun, engaging way. She is motivating and her classes are always very well prepared, and she makes herself available for any questions and makes you feel so at ease in and outside of the ‘classroom’. I cannot recommend Elodie enough to anyone who wants to learn French while having fun and results.” — Angela Sun
About Manor & Maker: “Stephen and Sara were impeccable hosts and planned a week of excursions and activities that were well rounded, informative, and fun. I was certainly thinking I am getting our money’s worth in terms of food and board, extras and organization plus
