This Level 1 Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Course at Bharatha Yoga Shala is created for dedicated practitioners who want to build a strong base in their practice while exploring the deeper dimensions of philosophy, anatomy, and the mechanics behind essential asanas. Whether your goal is to teach or simply to deepen your understanding, the course is open to sincere students.
Bharatha Yoga Shala respects the lineage of traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga while bringing in a refined understanding of movement, anatomy, and precise alignment. Through years of study, observation, and teaching, the school has shaped an Ashtanga sequence that stays true to tradition while meeting the needs of modern practitioners of different ages, body types, and backgrounds.
The training places strong emphasis on breath-movement coordination, mindful transitions, sustainable alignment, and steady Drishti. This approach preserves the discipline and depth of classical Ashtanga while supporting injury prevention, anatomical awareness, and long-term development on physical, mental, and spiritual levels. The result is a practice that is solid, adaptable, and designed to evolve over a lifetime.
The school’s teaching philosophy reflects holistic well-being as a path to inner light, inspired by the meaning behind the name Bharatha: “bha” for light and “rati” for the one who revels. It expresses the spirit the school aims to embody and share.
This intensive training engages students for up to 12 hours a day in the study and practice of yoga. Sessions include asana technique, anatomy, philosophy, and hands-on teaching experience, creating a learning environment that is both lively and immersive.
NOTE The Mysore courses require full dedication, with daily classroom engagement of up to 12 hours. Students are expected to arrive with commitment, complete the homework thoroughly, and come with a clear mind, as the intensity of the course can transform the way yoga is understood.
Beginner and Intermediate Classical Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga asanas are taught in the Indea Yoga style. Students learn the Indea Yoga Arogya (Beginner), Abhyasa (Preparatory), and Primary Series.
The Arogya series is designed for injured students, those with stiffness or limited flexibility, older practitioners, and yoga beginners. The Abhyasa series builds balance, strength, and flexibility through a broad range of asanas. The Primary series deepens practice and opens the way to fuller potential.
Each asana is taught in detail through a structured method that students are expected to master by the end of the course and for the exam:
Using the 8-step teaching methodology, students lead multiple mock teaching sessions for fellow TTC students in a classroom setting. This develops skill in demonstration, instruction, and observation. Students may also be asked to observe Indea Yoga teachers during Mysore Style guided self-practice classes.
A selection of energizing and calming pranayama techniques is included in the course.
Students receive a general overview of human anatomy and its structure and function, helping them connect practice with its effects on the body.
Students learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and a selection of additional mantras.
The course introduces the basics of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers, and the life of a yogi. Topics include the meaning of the word “Yoga,” Raja Yoga of Patanjali, Pancha Koshas, chakras, and an overview of Patanjali Yoga Sutras and Ashtanga (eight-fold) Yoga, with detailed satsang on selected sutras from chapters 1 and 2.
Throughout the four-week course, students are expected to engage in self-study, read recommended books, participate in discussion, and practice all topics covered.
Applicants must have at least 6 months of Ashtanga yoga practice and be able to perform 80% of the Beginner Series, 80% of the Preparatory Series asanas, and 65% of the Foundation/Primary Series asanas. Preparation can be done at home with support from Bharatha Yoga YouTube Channel, with Bharatha Yoga authorised teachers near your location, or through Kramatvam Mysore Yoga Classes at Bharatha Yoga Shala, Mysore.
Enrolment priority is given to past students and Bharatha Yoga practitioners. Sundays have no food. Reserve your place with an advance payment of 199 Euros.
