The area around Huntsville has a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, when local stone quarries played an important role in major projects such as the deep-water port in Galveston and the Texas City Dike. Over time, natural springs began to fill the quarries so quickly that continued stone extraction was no longer practical, and the site was eventually abandoned.
Today, Blue Lagoon has become a favorite destination for divers. It features two lagoons with submerged platforms and other underwater objects designed to make each dive more engaging. The maximum depth is 30 feet.
Certified divers are welcome during the scheduled open water weekend, held on the second weekend of each month, and it is a great opportunity to share the platforms and connect with fellow divers.
Open Water Divers meet at the lake at approximately 8:30 AM. If you are not participating in class, you and your buddy should plan to arrive before 10:00 AM.
