The Tara River is formed by the joining of the Opasnica and Veruša rivers at the foot of Mount Komovi. Famous for its exceptionally pure water, it is often called the “tear of Europe.” At 146.4 km long, it is the longest river in Montenegro, and its clear, icy water can be drunk anywhere along its course. For travelers seeking adventure and an active holiday, it is one of the most captivating rivers in the world. The final 25 km of the river and its canyon offer the most exciting rafting section, with stunning scenery and 20 thrilling rapids.
The Tara Canyon is the deepest in Europe, reaching 1,333 m, and the second deepest in the world after the Colorado Canyon in America. Since 1977, a large part of the river and canyon has been protected by UNESCO as part of Durmitor National Park, and it is counted among the 25 most important natural landmarks. Along the way, you will encounter dramatic cliffs, rapids, and untouched wilderness. The area is also rich in flora, including plant species preserved from ancient times, even from the Ice Age. Much of the canyon is covered with conifer forests, especially black pine, some trees of which are up to 400 years old and reach heights of 50 m.

Overnight stay.
Start the day with a traditional Montenegrin breakfast at the riverside restaurant, followed by meeting the skippers and other rafting participants. This part lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Next comes preparation for rafting, including neoprene clothing and footwear, safety belts, helmets, and a set for a Go Pro camera. This takes around 30 minutes. You may bring your camera and mobile phone, as each boat has a waterproof safety bag where you can store your belongings during the rapids and use them during breaks or on calmer sections of the river.
Your adventure continues with a short and exciting off-road drive to the rafting starting point, Brštanovica, which takes about 40 minutes. On arrival, your skipper will provide all necessary rafting instructions, so it is important to listen carefully and follow directions. During the descent, the skipper will also guide you before each rapid.
Enjoy rafting with pauses for swimming and photography at the most beautiful locations, including the famous waterfall on the Tara. The experience lasts about 3 to 4 hours. The river alternates between white, fast-moving sections and peaceful pools, giving you the chance to rest, take in the unique landscape, or swim in crystal-clear, very cold water.
Return to the camp for a traditional Montenegrin lunch with a variety of dishes, including gourmet, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other options of your choice, plus an aperitif of homemade Montenegrin brandy. This meal lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Almost all products are of organic origin and are purchased from local breeders and producers.
