The route leads through some of Montenegro’s most memorable mountain and cultural landmarks: Biogradska Gora National Park, Biogradsko Lake, Kolašin, and Morača Monastery.
Kolašin is a northern Montenegrin town located 72 km from Podgorica. Sitting at 954 m above sea level, it is known as an appealing destination for both winter and summer holidays. The nearby Bjelasica mountain area includes a popular ski resort only a few kilometers from the town, while the altitude and exceptional climate have earned Kolašin the reputation of an “air spa.”
One of the main highlights of the journey is Biogradska Gora National Park, Montenegro’s first officially protected national park, declared in 1952 and covering 5,650 ha. Its protection began as early as 1878, when the land was granted to Prince Nikola Petrović, later known as “Knjažev zabran” or the “Prince’s reserve.” The park’s greatest natural treasure is the Biogradska Gora rainforest, spreading across 1,600 hectares.
At the center of this forest lies the stunning Biogradsko Lake, the largest and best known of the park’s glacial lakes. Thanks to its rich plant and animal life, the national park has long attracted scientists, nature lovers, and visitors interested in scenic tours and field observations.
Morača Monastery, founded in 1252, is among Montenegro’s most important Orthodox medieval monuments. It stands on the right bank of the Morača River, in the widened section of the canyon, surrounded by a natural valley with striking landscapes in the municipality of Kolašin.
