Durmitor is a mountain national park in Montenegro, renowned for its striking landscapes and remarkable natural integrity. Its name is believed to come from a Celtic word meaning “a mountain full of water.” Declared a national park in 1952, this protected area in the northwest of the country covers 39,000 hectares and includes the main Durmitor massif, together with the Tara, Draga, and Sušica canyons, as well as the upper section of the Komarnica canyon valley.
Bobotov Kuk rises to 2,523 meters and stands as the highest peak of the Durmitor massif.
With its lakes, rivers, canyons, rich flora and fauna, and many other natural features, the park is considered an exceptional value of nature and a lasting source of inspiration for scientists and nature lovers alike.
