This retreat invites you to move with the rhythm of the waves, reconnect through movement, discover something new, and feel the magic of the sea up close. Where yoga, surfing, untouched nature, and community meet, a powerful space is created to recharge, detox, and feel free again in body, mind, and life.
Your home for these days is the idyllic Buddha Retreats villa, nestled in the green hills along Portugal’s Atlantic coast. It is a place of stillness, openness, and slowing down – ideal for stepping away from daily life and fully landing within yourself. The villa features nine modern, minimalist rooms, a spacious living area with a fireplace, a sun-filled terrace, and a large garden with a pool and plenty of peaceful corners to retreat. For our shared practice, there is a fully equipped yoga and workshop room. Our hosts, Carlijn and Stephan, create a warm, family-like atmosphere where everyone feels welcome from the very first moment, supported by loyal dogs, cats, and the horses in the neighboring field.
Food is an essential part of this retreat experience. Local cooks prepare fresh, varied meals every day using regional ingredients – mostly plant-based and always vegetarian. The cuisine is nourishing, balanced, and designed to help you feel light, strong, and well cared for. The dishes are wholesome, healthy, and full of flavor. With creativity, attention to detail, and little culinary surprises, each meal becomes something that feeds both body and joy. Every plate is made with heart – and you can taste it.
This Yoga & Surf Retreat in Portugal combines powerful yoga practice, meditation, and surfing with deep relaxation and nature experiences on the Portuguese Atlantic coast. The days begin early with an energizing yoga class on the terrace overlooking the green hills of the countryside. Meditation, pranayama, and dynamic vinyasa flows or pilates build strength, improve mobility, and bring mental clarity and focus for the day ahead. Each morning practice is supported by mindful journaling prompts.
On three days per week, surf lessons with certified surf instructors are included in the program. Together we head to the beach, step into the world of waves, and experience surfing as a powerful yet meditative movement practice. On surf-free days, you can look forward to rotating yoga specials such as Inside Flow, a creative vinyasa flow on beat, or selected workshops – always adapted to the group, the energy of the day, and the flow of the schedule.
In the evening, the practice becomes softer and more restorative: yin yoga, restorative sequences, deep stretches, breathwork, meditation, and yoga nidra support physical recovery and mental ease. Journaling prompts also help you close the day with intention. A special highlight is a shared evening at the beach, including a sunset walk and meditation by the sea.
Our retreat spot is peacefully set in nature and only about 10 minutes from the beaches around Baleal and Peniche. The coast invites beach days, surfing, seaside walks, and visits to surf cafés and surf shops. In the surrounding area, a trip to the historic village of Óbidos is well worth it. Horse riding in the countryside or on the beach, as well as wine tastings at local vineyards, are also possible. For longer outings, Nazaré or the surfer town of Ericeira are great options – perfect for strolling, watching surfers, and soaking up Portuguese coastal culture.
