A weekend of silence and presence
At Färjås Yogaretreat, we offer silent meditation retreats grounded in simple principles, nature, and authentic contemplative traditions. Through silence (mauna), meditation, yoga, tea ceremonies, and shared meals, the retreat invites you to step away from the pace of everyday life and reconnect with inner stillness and the voice of the heart.
Färjås is located between the Vallda Sandö and Hördalen nature reserves, nestled against the mountains with forest behind us and views across coastal meadows and the sea. Since 2013, Färjås Yogaretreat has hosted silent meditation retreats.
In many ways, these retreats reflect the very essence of who we are:
SILENCE
Many spiritual traditions value periods of silence as a way to calm the mind, rebalance the hormonal and nervous systems, and reconnect with the gentle voice of the heart.
Periodic silence (mauna) is a form of fasting for the mind, gradually quieting the scattered chatter of the lower mind (manas). As the mind becomes clearer, a deeper sense of peace, creativity, and inner freedom can emerge.
We use words to define ourselves and the world through fixed concepts and roles. Letting go of speech through the practice of silence (mauna) opens us to the magic of essential, non-conceptual, and unclaimed presence.
During the retreat, we refrain from speaking, using phones, mirrors, and social interaction. Pen and paper are enough for practical communication with the organizing team.
Important questions that arise during meditation can be written down and will be addressed during the program.
TEA CEREMONY
Each morning begins with a calm tea ceremony. During this ritual, we contemplate the beauty of the interplay between the five elements while tea is served and enjoyed. Beauty and contemplation are essential aspects of our retreats and support a return to the heart and mindful presence in the now.
We drink dark, fermented Chinese teas — Pu'erh and Liu Bao — aged from the 1980s and 1990s.
YOGA
The yoga sessions are designed to strengthen and relax the body between longer periods of meditation. Hatha yoga postures (asanas) are combined with gentle warm-ups and deep relaxation.
The program also includes deep yogic relaxation (yoga nidra), supporting renewal and deepening the effects of meditation. No previous yoga experience is required.
GUIDANCE
Short daily sessions offer meditation guidance and practical tools, along with perspectives on the self (ātman) and non-duality.
Participants are encouraged to write down practical questions and more poetic reflections, which are included in the three guidance sessions.
