In earlier times, people lived in close relationship with the land. Their survival depended on that bond, and they carried a deep understanding of the wisdom nature offered. Ritual and practical life were woven together, as were story and knowledge, giving daily life a profound sense of meaning. Over these four days, we walk that path together again, drawing on its gifts to restore balance in modern life and reconnect with our own nature.
Along the way, we explore the path of herbs and take the first steps in building a relationship with the wisdom of plants. We also practice primitive skills such as fire bow work, gathering natural tinder, wood carving techniques, shelter building, and making cordage from natural fibers. You will also learn how to be consciously present in the forest, moving slowly to notice wildlife. The four-day experience also leaves room for time alone in the woods, sharing stories around the campfire, and engaging in ritual or ceremony.
This retreat is ideal if you are looking for a weekend away to fully enjoy togetherness and nature in all its forms. If you enjoy practical hands-on activities in your free time, you are welcome to bring a personal project to work on during the retreat, such as wood carving, a shamanic object, weaving, or ceramics.
During the weekends, we stay at one of our basecamps in the forest. An outdoor shower and compost toilet are available. You will sleep in your own shelter or hammock. Delicious vegetarian meals are provided. We intentionally keep the group small, with a maximum of 6 participants for this weekend.

Sophie Vandenkerchove
Sophie feels deeply connected to both the inner and outer Wild Nature. She has practiced Zen meditation in the Korean tradition for many years and has received several initiations in Druidry and local Celtic shamanism. For years, she has nurtured a passion for edible and medicinal plants, bringing together practical knowledge with an intuitive and ritual approach to the plant world. She also trained as a Wilderness Rites of Passage Guide at the School of Lost Borders in California.
Sophie grew up in the forests of the Ardennes, where she experienced a strong bond with the land of her ancestors as a child. After wandering through wild places in the cities, she returned to her ancestral village. There she founded Chamai, a nature retreat center where she leads trainings, Vision Quests, and weekends in nature.
