Blue Cave – Mamula Island – Rose Village
Discover three remarkable Adriatic highlights on a full-day sea excursion that blends natural beauty, history, and coastal charm. The Blue Cave is considered one of the most captivating natural attractions of its kind in the Mediterranean. Set on the Luštica peninsula, between Golden Port Cove and Mokra Gora Cape, it lies 5.6 nautical miles from Herceg Novi. On sunny summer days, sunlight reflects from the sea and fills the cave with a vivid blue glow through a smaller opening, creating its famous color. With a sea depth of 3 to 4 meters and an arch rising about 9 meters above sea level, swimming in its crystal azure waters is an unforgettable experience for lovers of the sea and nature.
Mamula Island sits at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, in the Herceg Novi area, between the Luštica peninsula and Prevlaka, around 3.4 nautical miles from Herceg Novi. Most of the island is taken up by a 19th-century fortress built by Austro-Hungarian General Lazar Mamula. During World War II, the island also served as a prison, remembered for its harsh conditions and tragic past.
Rose is a small captain’s village on the northwestern coast of the Luštica peninsula, directly opposite Herceg Novi. This quiet Mediterranean settlement is known for its family houses stretching along the waterfront. Long ago, it was an ancient Greek settlement called “Punto Roza,” which was destroyed by the Arabs in 867. Its significance is also mentioned in the writings of Byzantine Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus in 841. Thanks to its sheltered position and protection from the winds, Rose once served as a refuge for sailing ships.
