Black Lotus Yoga is a contemporary expression of the vinyasa tradition, shaped by Hatha principles and alive with space for exploration. Rather than following a rigid formula, it invites improvisation within a clear structure, offering six balanced and energizing sequences that awaken the body, stir dormant potential, and encourage creative flow.
At its heart, this practice sees the body not as a tool of the mind, but as a living expression of creative power. The invitation is to feel that energy moving beneath the skin, to meet it with openness, and to allow it to reshape us from within. In this way, the practice becomes a direct encounter with embodiment and transformation.
During this workshop, we move beyond introductory material and into the philosophy that supports the system. Through subtle techniques, we explore inner breath movement, refined patterns of sensation, and the lifting of support from earth to sky. These are the foundations of bandha and mudra, and they help bring the philosophy of the practice into lived experience.
This immersion is suitable for anyone wishing to learn Black Lotus Yoga, as well as for those already practicing the system who want a fuller understanding. Practitioners coming from Ashtanga may find it a rich and inspiring alternative. No prior Black Lotus experience is needed, and the evolving nature of the system means you are invited to join in its unfolding.
Optional lecture: The Spirit of Modern Yoga
This evening lecture with Ty offers space for study and reflection grounded in real practice. It is a hopeful tribute to modern yoga and a playful exploration of somatic inquiry. The talk begins from the idea that, beneath the noise and distraction of contemporary culture, modern yoga holds genuine spiritual depth. Through asana, pranayama, and meditation, we reconnect with the soul, restore a sense of wonder, and respond to the dissociation and emptiness of our time with renewed trust and inspiration.
The lecture may be attended on its own or as part of the full Black Lotus Yoga weekend intensive.
The Teacher
Ty Landrum is a poet, philosopher, somatic explorer, and devoted student of the body. His path into yoga was shaped by pain and heartbreak, loss and confusion, old books and forgotten recordings, full moons, long periods of silence, cold winds, simplicity, forgiveness, surrender, and the care of a few good friends.
Known for his deep engagement with traditional yogic ideas, Ty has a rare gift for bringing yoga philosophy to life, not only through words but through the breathing body itself. As a teacher, he is devoted to sharing the brilliance of yoga with anyone who wishes to learn.
