What is Ayahuasca?
Ayahuasca is a sacred Amazonian plant medicine made from the Ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and the leaves of the Chacruna shrub (Psychotria viridis). For centuries, shamans have used it for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing, as well as for guidance and connection with the natural world. During ceremony, Ayahuasca opens a doorway into a deep state of awareness, helping participants release emotional burdens, gain clarity, and reconnect with their true essence.
How should I prepare for a ceremony?
Preparation is essential when working with sacred plant medicine. The days before the ceremony help the body and mind open to the medicine:
- Dietary preparation (at least 7 days before): Avoid alcohol, red meat, especially pork, processed sugar, sexual activity, drugs, and chemical medications. These substances may interfere with the medicine or cause adverse reactions. Eating plant-based meals helps bring the body into harmony with the plants.
- Mental preparation: Set a clear intention for your ceremony. Journaling, meditation, or simply reflecting on why Ayahuasca has called you can be very helpful. It is best to arrive with openness rather than rigid expectations.
- Physical preparation: Rest well and avoid sexual activity for 7 days before the ceremony. This conserves energy and allows the body to focus fully on the healing process. Gentle exercise, time in nature, or quiet reflection can also support preparation.
What are the recommendations after the ceremony?
Ayahuasca ceremonies can be deeply transformative, and the medicine continues to work for several days afterward. To support integration and honor the process, we recommend the following for at least 3 days after:
Diet
- Continue the diet for 3 days: simple meals with vegetables, grains, light proteins such as fish or chicken, and fruit.
- Avoid alcohol, drugs, chemical medications, and red meat, especially pork.
- If you have vomited, avoid acidic foods and drinks the next day, as digestion will be sensitive.
- Eggs, fish, and chicken are safe if they are part of your normal diet.
- Avoid coffee and other stimulants for at least 1 day.
Rest and Environment
- If possible, keep the day after the ceremony free from work obligations.
- Stay in a peaceful, quiet environment.
- Limit overstimulation, such as loud music, chaotic spaces, or excessive screen time.
Energy and Relationships
- Avoid conflict, intense interactions, and unnecessary energy drains.
- Refrain from sexual activity and self-stimulation for 3 days to protect and consolidate your energy.
Integration
- Journaling can help process insights, release emotions, and bring clarity.
- Allow time for rest, self-care, and quiet reflection.
Support
- Remember that the ceremony does not end when the night is over. Ayahuasca continues to guide and teach in subtle ways.
- You may contact us at any time after the ceremony with questions or for support.
Is Ayahuasca safe?
When taken in a ceremonial setting with trained guides and proper preparation, Ayahuasca is considered safe. At La Musa Verde, your well-being is our top priority. We ensure:
- Health screening: Each participant completes a medical questionnaire before joining. Certain medications, particularly antidepressants, SSRIs, and blood pressure medication, are not compatible with Ayahuasca. Some health conditions also require special consideration.
- Experienced guidance: Our guide, Christian Becker, has 10 years of experience serving Ayahuasca in a strict traditional lineage.
- Safe environment: The ceremonies are held with care, attention, and respect for each participant’s process.
